Mark Carranceja, Founder & Creative Director

Mark has 20 years of experience as a Video Editor, Motion Artist, Cinematographer, Sound Designer, and Director. From 2009-2012, Mark directed over sixty music videos in three years, a prolific feat that is a testament to his unrelenting resolve, unbounded creativity, and tireless work ethic.

In addition, Mark served as Assistant Professor of New Media for the State University of New York for ten years. He earned tenure in 2017 after developing and launching the program in 2014. Mark is a passionate educator who challenges his students to produce work that reaches for a difference and views filmmaking's craft as a tool for change. Under his tutelage, students have secured Film/TV Union positions, launched production companies, and won prestigious awards for their work in the entertainment industry.

His journey began as a DJ/Turntablist in the mid-1990s, which led him down a path into the recording studio and, eventually, as a Music Producer. For ten years, he created under the moniker DJ Element and produced a fusion of Hip Hop, Electronic Music, and Jazz, in which a handful of his tracks were placed for commercial purposes. In 2018, Mark returned from his sabbatical, reignited his passion for music, and found his true call sign, Kuryente, which means electricity in Tagalog. as a Techno act, he combines raw beats and hard grooves to forge a driving sound that is uniquely his own.

A change agent to the core, Mark pivoted back into production and is eager to merge both experiences in entrepreneurship and education in future ventures to leverage his creative language and experiential teaching strategies within spaces of traditional, emerging, and experimental media.
