Rashid Johnson: The Hikers

A dance work conceived of by Rashid Johnson and choreographer Claudia Schreier, The Hikers follows the path of two solo hikers, both Black: first alone, then crossing each other’s path—an encounter that unfolds in sometimes lithe, sometimes lumbering balletic movements, challenging modern conceptions of blackness and fetishizations of black bodies in motion. In collaboration with choreographer Claudia Schreier, Johnson explores the physical and psychological repercussions that attend the black body in space.  

 

Newburgh Is Movement

Since 1946 there has been an organization dedicated to youth in and around Newburgh, New York. The Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh (BGCN), continues to be an essential piece of the fabric of our community. Most recently, in a ground-breaking collaboration with the City of Newburgh, BGCN hired sixty City of Newburgh youth to explore social and cultural values in their community through the creation of a thought-provoking mural series and banner installation. Audrey Carey Park, named for Newburgh and New York State's first, black female mayor, provided the canvas for this effort to engage youth in a meaningful community improvement project.

Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy

This micro doc examines the community activism behind the inception of Brooklyn Bridge Park and the burgeoning movement that led to the development of one of the most innovative public-private endeavors that New York City has seen. This doc also displays the breadth of free events and activities that the Conservancy continues to produce for the public.

Afrika Bambaataa, Kool DJ Red Alert & DJ Jazzy Jay

Afrika Bambaataa, Kool DJ Red Alert, and The Original Jazzy Jay reunite on the wheels of steel for the first time in over 25 years. Many have neglected the fact these individuals are primarily responsible for the genesis of hip-hop culture. Noisemaker Media was at the right place and at the right time, and captured this historic moment that brings together DJ's, B-Boys, and Hip Hop enthusiasts alike.

Diggers Delight Park Jam Series

Diggers Delight features legends such as DJ Cash Money, Large Professor, Lord Finesse, The Original DJ Jazzy Jay, and Popmaster Fabel as well as renowned vinyl diggers such as DJ Muro, Breakbeat Lou, Chairman Mao, and Forrest Getemgump. Diggers Delight is a park jam that focuses on selection over style where DJ's have the freedom to play music with soul and substance.

Crotona Park Park Jam Series

The 2010 series continues at the legendary Crotona Park in the Bronx as breakers, DJ's and true school enthusiasts alike gather at the Park Jam to revive Hip Hop tradition.
